Cumbria is a food producing superpower
which we are championing!

We want to work with farms, food producers, community groups and educators to strengthen the identity of Cumbria as a major food producing area.

If your work connects to food or farming - we'd love to hear from you.
Together, we can share insights, celebrate stories and build a more transparent, connected and resilient food future for Cumbria.

Farming in Cumbria directly employs over 12,500 people - more than Sellafield and nearly as many as BAE Systems' 14,500 - making it one of the county's largest and most vital employers.

Cumbria is the second largest county in England producing 900 million litres of milk annually - with 107,000 dairy cows making up 10% of England's overall dairy herd total.

Let us introduce ourselves and answer the big question:

“What is Nourish Cumbria?”

Nourish Cumbria will operate as an action-focused co-ordination arm for the rural sector in Cumbria. We are bringing together the different voices and stories of the food and farming sector. Its main purpose will be to ensure that key activities are prioritised, developed, and delivered in support of growth and resilience in the sector. The group will focus on supporting increased productivity, prosperity, and inclusive growth for Cumbria. It will also provide a clear plan for delivery and act as a collective voice for the sector and its interests.

The group will champion the development of Cumbria’s food proposition through agriculture and food production aligned to the following key themes:

  • PRODUCTIVITY
  • SUSTAINABILITY
  • RESPONSIBILITY

Church Stile Farm exemplifies the synergy between agriculture, heritage and tourism in Cumbria.

The farm participates in environmental stewardship, promoting biodiversity via woodland, wildflower planting, bird and bat boxes.
